Who We Are & What We Do
Black Mountain Sand is an in-basin frac sand supplier delivering superior products and solutions to the Exploration & Production (E&P) and oilfield services industries. Frac sand is a key component of hydraulic fracturing, a well completion method in which liquids are introduced into a wellbore at high pressure, forcing fissures within a rock to open thus releasing the hydrocarbons held within. These new pathways are then propped open with frac sand, allowing oil and gas to flow to the wellhead.
A Renaissance in Domestic Production
Driven by technological advancements in drilling and completion, United States oil and natural gas production is experiencing a renaissance with daily output reaching numbers not seen in 50 years. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), domestic energy production will continue to surge.
With new innovations in hydraulic fracturing, frac sand demand is expected to climb accordingly. With annual production capacity nearing 17 million tons, Black Mountain Sand is the largest pure-play in-basin sand provider in the market with five facilities serving the completion needs of companies operating in the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford Shale, and Oklahoma’s Mid-Continent.
Why In-Basin Frac Sand?
When oil prices plummeted in mid-2014, production companies across the U.S. set their sights on uncovering new methods of extracting oil, cheaper and more efficiently. The adoption of in-basin sand is a product of this drive for innovation, delivering cost savings by significantly reducing shipping expenses which can account for 65 percent of frac sand costs. Current estimates indicate using in-basin sand will reduce the total cost of drilling and completing a well upwards of 5 to 10 percent.
